The skin on our face is delicate (and at times, temperamental), so finding good quality, healthy products to clean, moisturize, and exfoliate is important.  The problem is that so many of the commercial products available for facial care are full of toxic chemicals.  These chemicals and toxins can leave your skin dry, irritated, or inflamed, and cause long-term damage.  Luckily, it is easy to make homemade facial masks at home!
You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars buying creams, cleaners, masks and other products to have beautiful skin.  You can make all of your own facial care (and skin care) products at home, with natural and healthy ingredients.
Here are the basic elements of a good facial cleansing routine:
Clean your skin:
It’s important to clean off any makeup, dirt, grease, food residue, or whatever else may be on your face.  The Oil Cleansing Method is a great way to wash your face, since it naturally cleans and dissolves the bad oils on your skin, without drying out the delicate facial skin.
Exfoliate
Exfoliating is important to keeping healthy skin, because it helps get rid of dead skin, while drawing out other impurities.  There are a ton of great exfoliating face masks and methods to help you do this, using only natural ingredients.  I put together a list of my favorite 10 simple exfoliating face scrubs, to choose from.
Face Mask
Face masks help treat particular skin types or conditions.  Depending on what type of skin you have: dry, irritated, or oily, there is an easy homemade facial mask recipe here for you.
Dry Skin
Carrot and coconut oil homemade facial masks is a great choice. The carrots help to tone and clarify your skin and reduce break-outs, while the coconut oil moisturizes and reduces bad, acne-causing oils.  This easy, inexpensive facial mask only contains 2 ingredients.
Banana Homemade Facial Masks: Mash up a ripe banana until you have a consistent, smooth paste. Gently rub it into your face and let it sit for 10-20 minutes, then rinse.
Lemon Homemade Facial MasksMix 1/4 cup of olive or coconut oil with the juice from 1 lemon.  Let sit for 5 minutes, then rinse.
 Oily Skin
Apple Cider Vinegar Homemade Facial MasksMix together 1/4 cup of ACV with 1/4 cup water and gently rub the solution into your face.  Allow to dry, then rinse.
Yogurt Face Homemade Facial MasksCombine 1 tsp plain yogurt, 2 tsp juice from an orange, a bit of orange pulp, and 1 tsp aloe vera.  Stir until well mixed and apply to face, in gentle circular motions.  Let sit for 10 minutes, then rinse.
Cucumber Homemade Facial Masks: In a blender, combine 1/2 cucumber (peel removed), 1 egg white, 1 tsp lemon juice and 1 drop peppermint essential oil and blend until smooth.  Apply gently to face and let sit 15 minutes, then rinse.
Irritated Skin
Honey and Oatmeal Face Scrub is a scrub recipe, but it can also be used as a facial mask.  Just leave the mixture of soothing oatmeal, moisturizing honey, and anti-inflammatory essential oils for 5 minutes, and then rinse.
Avocado Homemade Facial Masks:  Remove the pit and skin from an avocado, and mash until a smooth consistency. Add 1 tsp lemon juice, 1 tbsp of olive oil and 1 tsp of honey and mix.  Apply a thin layer and gently rub the mixture onto face.  Let sit for 15 minutes, then rinse.
Chamomile Homemade Facial Masks: Mix together 1/8 cup chamomile tea leaves with 1/4 cup honey, 2 tbsp aloe vera and 1 tsp jojoba or olive oil.  Gently rub into skin, using circular motions, and allow to sit for 20 minutes, then rinse.
Moisturize
After your face is cleaned, exfoliated, and renewed with a mask, then it’s time to moisturize.  I use a thin layer of my Oil Cleansing Method mix, but coconut oil, grapeseed oil, or olive oil are also great options.
